In an effort to continue Cornell University’s tradition of project-based learning, a group of students and faculty members has entered the competition for the Progressive Insurance Automotive X-Prize (AXP). The Cornell 100+ MPG team’s goal is to win this global competition by designing a radically different automobile that will reduce global non-renewable energy consumption and harmful emissions. We would like to invite you to become a partner and sponsor of the Cornell 100+ MPG team. The Progressive Insurance X-Prize Foundation has offered $10 million in prizes to the teams who successfully design and build a vehicle that can achieve 100 miles per gallon and create a viable business plan to sell 10,000 vehicles.
Composed of 70 Cornell undergraduate and graduate students from several academic disciplines, the Cornell 100+ MPG team is the only officially registered university team in the competition. Led by Professors Albert George and John Callister, both seasoned and highly successful project team advisors, our team is well-prepared to build and test concepts, systems, and vehicles rapidly and successfully.
The Cornell University team, in partnership with several corporate sponsors, is well placed to win this competition. We are currently looking for monetary donations or in-kind gifts to launch the development and production stages which will last through the end of 2009. We hope you will see the value of allowing Cornell students to gain hands-on experience building a car that could re-define the automotive industry, and we look forward to working with you to achieve this goal.
